Alabama Short Stories

Podcast & Books

SEASON 1  | EPISODE 1

Leo Wright was a creative director at the advertising agency Luckie (also know as The Robert Luckie Company, Luckie & Forney, Tucker Wayne/Luckie, Luckie & Company and maybe others) in Birmingham, AL, where he spent his entire career.

He was part of a team that generated a lot of great creative work over the years, and I was lucky to be on the sidelines watching. At least in terms of buzz, one of the biggest campaigns was a television ad for South Central Bell featuring Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant of the University of Alabama. Over four decades later, the ad is still talked about. Over the years, there has been a lot of speculation over how it was created and who was involved. And where did that icon tagline come from? I felt it was time to set the record straight. I went to the man who knew the story first hand, my dad Leo Wright.

On this inaugural episode of the Alabama Short Stories podcast, here is my interview with Leo Wright.
